AirPort Extreme vs regular Router

Hi guys. Im just wondering if anyone has the Airport Extreme which is being used as a router or to copy files over WIFI? with my regular router even with 5Ghz i find that copy files over the network is slow and sometimes fails now I'm wondering if anyone uses there Airport Extreme to copy files over WIFI?
